The Beth Hughes Memorial Fund

Purpose

The Fund is a dedicated reserve from which the Association may subsidize registration fees for players who, due to economic barriers, would otherwise be unable to participate in organized football.

History

Beth Hughes was an instrumental force in the establishment of the Twin Cities Minor Tackle Football Association. Along with her husband Russ, Beth was the brains and the backbone of the Association’s early years.

Beth maintained professional attitudes and standards for our organization. Everything had to be done by the constitution for the betterment of the Association: Our success today is testimony to the groundwork of Beth, Russ, and other founding families.

Beth Hughes was exceedingly caring, and thoughtful; nothing was too good for her Twin Cities players. While she relished the opportunity to recognize others for their hard work, Beth was very humble and avoided the spotlight of attention for herself.

Of particular concern to Beth were instances where a child with a desire to play football was unable because they couldn't afford it.

When Beth passed a way in October 2008, the Hughes family graciously requested donations to TCMTFA to honour her memory. This was the first contribution to the Beth Hughes Memorial Fund, which today carries on as an important mission within our organization.

Operation

The Beth Hughes Memorial Fund is supported and funded by league operations and fundraising.

The fund is accessed equally by the Predator and Warhawk programs with efforts to administer the program across all age levels.

The Beth Hughes Memorial Fund is intended to provide supplemental funding. Applicants are expected to access municipal payment assistance and sports grant programs, along with community groups, before making application for assistance through Twin Cities Football.

Process

To make application to the fund, players and sponsors are required to complete a Request for Fee Assistance Form.

The Form is in MS Excel format:  Click the link and save to your own computer first.  When completed the form may be submitted via email.

Required information includes name and contact information for the player’s sponsor, a description of other funding sources solicited, and an explanation of why assistance is required.

The Board of Directors considers applications; applicants will be contacted when award decisions are made.

Inquiries or application to the Beth Hughes Memorial Fund should be directed to the Treasurer of the Association.
